6 Gorgeous Art Exhibitions at Versailles

Versailles has chosen one major artist to display their art at Versailles yearly since the first major art installation at Versailles by Jeff Koons in 2008. Each exhibition is magnificent in its own right (though my favorite is Murakami) and brings the staid grandiosity of Versailles alive again in new ways.

Enjoy the photos and tell me which is your favorite in the comments!

1. Takashi Murakami (2010)

2. Joana Vasconcelos (2012)

3. Bernar Venet (2011)

4. Jeff Koons (2008)

5. Xavier Veilhan (2009)

This is The Naked Woman. She’s only about one foot tall!

Xavier Velhan, the artist (he is HOT!!!)

6. Giuseppe Penone (2013)

WOW! Some of these sculptures/pictures, I like and find amazing. Others I really don’t like at all. The colorful child-like art is not appealing, except for the color.

Some of the metallic items are good. I am impressed by what looks like wirework most.

Enjoyable to view in lovely photos since I won’t get to see this in person. Merci.

Thank you! I love the interplay between the artists’ work and Versailles. Such a perfect space for this kind of experimentation, and I love too how everyone has a strong opinion of each exhibition:)

YUCK! I hate that Versailles allows this to happen. The Venet and Penone were the worst…but seriously exhibitions like this make me NOT want to visit Versailles…they bring you out of the fantasy that is Versailles to something that looks like feces on a wedding cake.

Thank you for your honest response. I know the exhibitions aren’t everyone’s favorite :)

  3. I think these installations are a gas. It’s amazing to me how well some of them look in that incredible place (when I visited years ago, the interior was closed. But the exterior and gardens were fantastic enough.) Normally I’m not a fan of Koons, but loved his hanging heart and his other stuff looks very at home. Another favorite was the purple balls mobile.

Thank you! I Love them so much too! The Murakami is my favorite by far. I don’t often like Koons either, but I liked his pieces in Versailles more than I thought I would :)

for some of these…..WOW is just right and the others, YUCK is perfect.
I think Versailles should at least judge the works before they allow it…like some are made just so that people can laugh at them. What on earth were those colorful decorations doing in a monumental place, a place of such respectable history? They belong in circuses, and would look good in them, seriously! Some of the outside pieces are good, though i think there are plenty enough places other than Versailles for this sort of thing….Versailles should stop this at once.
